Ben Kent is an incredibly talented artist from Upstate NY who doesn't dabble much in the hip-hop side of things but still provides some amazing music. On Friday January 15th Ben released his latest single "You're So Mean" a slower tune about a love interest gone wrong. This is a realm that Ben thrives in and one that fans and new listeners alike are sure to appreciate for the high quality and talent Ben consistently provides. We suggest even if it's not your general listening you give it a shot.
If you've been sleeping on 7xvethegenius then this will be a great track to wake you up. She provides some raw lyrical boom-bap hip-hop that has seemingly been experiencing a renaissance within the NY hip-hop community. 7xvethegenius has recently been gaining attention after being signed by Conway the Machine's Drumwork Music Group. Her poetic nature and lyrical capability make it clear that 7xvethegenius is not one to be messed with. Looking forward to hearing more from her throughout 2021.
Ta Double is back with his latest track 'No Love'. The track is very reminiscent of the current drill scene that continues to be a staple in NY hip-hop. Ta released 'No Love' on Thursday January 14th. The track is the latest single from Ta following his previous full length release, 'Taz Manian Devil' an EP released in 2020.
On January 4th Prince TeeJay released his latest single 'Old Me' onto all streaming services. The track is the first release from Teejay thus far in 2021 but if he can continue this quality at a consistent pace then the year looks to be a positive one for him. The short 2 minute track is very catchy and has a melodic tone that makes it very enjoyable to listen to. Hoping to hear more from Prince Teejay throughout 2021.
Freshwurld kicked off 2021 with a freestyle showcasing his lyrical ability. On January 4th he released his latest freestyle '2 Min Freestyle' onto all streaming services.
It is Freshwurld's latest release following his previous full length release 'Fresh Cobain'. 'Fresh Cobain' was a collaborative release that Freshwurld released with fellow Upstate artist Cash Cobain.
Spazi released his first full length release 'Broken' onto streaming services on January 14th. The 17 year old from Rochester kicked off the near year in a big way releasing the 12 track album. The project comes in at just under 40 minutes and is an easily consumable project. It's a solid debut for a young artist who shows a ton of potential and room for growth. A really solid project that showcases the young artists maturity and talent.
Therealjon released his debut project 'Now I Know' onto streaming services on January 1st. The young artist out of Watkins Glen kicked off the year in a big way releasing his first full length project after dropping a number of solo tracks last year. The project is a solid debut effort and while having it's similarities to certain mainstream acts it's clear Therealjon can craft his own lane as he continues working within the realm. This isn't as much of a hip-hop project more blending into the pop-rap similar to artists like The Kid Laroi and to an extent JuiceWrld.
You can find the tracks mentioned above as well as some songs from the albums mentioned above on Upstate's Latest a playlist dedicated to promoting and connecting artist from Upstate NY. If you haven't yet check it out!
